PARIS, TORONTO and TOKYO, June 30, 2023 – Arval, Element Fleet Management (“Element”) and Sumitomo Mitsui Auto Service (“SMAS”), through the Element-Arval Global Alliance (“the Alliance”), today announced a tri-lateral strategic cooperation agreement. The agreement will facilitate enhanced access for global clients to full-service lease and fleet management services in the markets of Japan, Thailand, India and Indonesia through SMAS.

It’s often said that car subscription marks the birth of car usership after over a century of car ownership. But that’s not completely true. After all, car rental consists of using a car for a few days – and it was invented in the 1900s. And car leasing consists of using a car for a few years, and it’s been around since the 1930s.

In both cases, the car is usually provided inclusive of services (maintenance, insurance, tires, etc.) in exchange for a daily (rental) or monthly (leasing) fee. At the end of the agreed period, the customer returns the car to the rental or leasing company and has never owned the vehicle, just used it.

To support the growth of the bicycle market, Arval is expanding its long-term leasing offer through a partnership with the start-up Zenride, specialized in bike leasing solutions.

Arval and Element Fleet Management, through their Element-Arval Global Alliance, today announced that SIXT Mega Rent has become a new member of the world-spanning fleet management network, the longest standing strategic alliance in the fleet management and leasing industry for the benefit of clients with global needs. To date, partners of the Alliance manage more than 4 million vehicles under management and now operate in 55 countries across five continents.

Lightyear – the Dutch high-tech company producing the world’s first solar-powered electric car, Lightyear 0, – has signed a pre-order agreement with Arval, Europe’s #1 full service multibrand vehicle leasing company, and key player in sustainable mobility solutions owned by the BNP Paribas Group. The pre-order entails 10,000 units of Lightyear 2, Lightyear’s accessible mass-market model. With that, the company has a new go-to mobility partner for corporate clients and consumers to experience solar-electric mobility in Arval’s key markets in Europe. The grand total of Lightyear 2 pre-orders from B2B partners now exceeds 21,000 units, corresponding to a revenue of nearly €840 million. This news comes one week after Lightyear has opened the Lightyear 2 waitlist for consumers to get priority in the pre-order process later this year.
