Our Third-Party Liability Coverage meets the legal requirements that all vehicles on the European roads must be covered with civil liability coverage. Indeed, it covers material damages or bodily injuries/death cause to third parties when you are held responsible of an accident. However, you won’t be covered if you are responsible for the accident for any physical damage.

Our Motor Own Damage coverage is more comprehensive as it helps you with the cost of repairing your own vehicle when it gets damaged, even if you are held responsible for the accident, or if no responsible person can be identified.
Car insurance (Third Party Liability insurance) allows you to meet the mandatory insurance requirements. You can increase your protection by subscribing to additional coverages: Motor Own Damage, Accident Management, Driver Training, Guaranteed Asset Protection.
In cases of intent and gross negligence, e.g., under the influence of alcohol or drugs, committing a crime or racing.
In Europe, it is mandatory for every car to be insured with at least civil liability coverage (TPL at ARVAL). This protection compensates victims of damage caused by your vehicle. You can add more coverage in order to protect your vehicle (including if it is leased) and its occupants with Motor Own Damage and Accident Management for example.

Regardless of the coverage chosen, you are covered for any bodily injuries resulting from a car accident. Moreover, if you chose any additional coverage, passengers, cyclists, pedestrians as well as the driver and the passengers of the other vehicle damaged in the accident can be covered.
If you are our fleet insurance customer, please check with your employer or fleet manager if there are any exceptions, documents, or authorizations needed when lending the vehicle.
On a Personal Clients Car insurance contract, the driver(s) declared and specified in the contract at the time of subscription to the car insurance policy will be covered (bodily injury and repairs of the damaged car).

You can contact one of our advisors at XYZ or subscribe directly via our website: we will handle the cancellation process with your current insurer and manage the subscription to Arval insurance for the coverage(s) responding to your needs.
If you are traveling abroad within the European Economic Area or in Switzerland, no special action is required as your license plate reading serves as proof that you are covered by car insurance.
However, if you wish to travel in the countries listed in Section II of the General Regulation (list as of April 1, 2024: Albania, Morocco, Moldova, North Macedonia, Tunisia, Turkey), the International Motor Insurance Card (IMIC) is mandatory.
Note that green cards issued before April 1, 2024, and still valid can be used to travel to these countries.
In order to obtain the International Motor Insurance Card, if you are insured through Arval :

It is also important to request an exit authorization from your usual commercial contact or to make the request on the website under the "Travel Abroad" section.
Finally, if you wish to travel to the countries listed on the back of the green card, you can request permission from ARVAL to use your vehicle beyond mainland France (or country). We will send you the original vehicle registration certificate along with an authorization to leave the territory. Please submit your request via the contact form, specifying your postal address.
In the case of an accident AND you are insured through ARVAL:
It is crucial to report it to Arval as soon as possible, within a maximum of 2 working days for theft/fire and 5 working days for other damages. This can be done in a few minutes through:

If the vehicle is not drivable, Arval will organize a towing service, transport to the nearest workshop and arrange a replacement vehicle.
If the incident involves a third party, it is necessary to fill out an accident report within 5 working days and attach it to your online incident declaration. In this report, you need to collect data from the party responsible for the accident (contact information, license plate, insurance) and send it to Arval.
In the case of vandalism, burglary, theft, or damage caused by an unknown party, first report it to the local authorities, specifying that it is a long-term rental vehicle. Attach your police report to your incident declaration. This needs to be done within 2 working days.
In the case of an accident and you are NOT insured through ARVAL:
First, report your incident to your insurer and send the following to Arval if applicable:

Theft or fire: the police report of your complaint filed with the local authorities.

Flooding or natural disaster (if the vehicle is declared a total loss): a copy of the incident report.
You are entitled to Assistance in cases of breakdown, accident, theft or attempted theft, vandalism, and fire, as well as for any failure of safety components (seatbelt, windshield wipers, turn signals, front and rear lights). You are also covered for flat tires, fuel errors, running out of fuel or energy (dead battery), lost or broken keys, or keys locked inside the vehicle.
